Quadrant 3: Geo Map
Posted by Travis on December 12th, 2005This quadrant of the overview report shows you where in the world your visitors are coming from.

Each visit will show as a dot on the map in the location where the visit came from. If there are multiple visits from one location (including from the same, i.e. repeat, visitor) then the dot will grow in size to reflect the number of visits from that location.

Here, we see that when you roll over one of those dots with the mouse, you get a little pop-up telling you the city and number of visits.
Interpretation
- This report is excellent for Geotargeting your site’s users, or just letting you know if you need to broaden your site’s appeal to attract users from other regions.
- In some cases (such as Chitika e-minimalls), ads you display on your site will not bring in any revenue from certain countries. In other cases, the ads simply may not appeal to a broad range of your users because they are in other countries/regions.
- If you are using an ad campaign such as Google Adwords, you can see how well your keywords are drawing in visitors from specific areas. You can then adjust your adwords account accordingly.
Definitions
- Geotargeting is the practice of appealing to, or catering to, visitors by region/country.
