Visits & Page Views

The first box, on the top-left, graphs your number of visitors and number of pageviews over the selected time period (again, in this case, the default is the current week).

Here’s a close-up of that first quadrant:

Notice the “show all/hide all” buttons- by default, they “hide all.” but you can have them show you the raw numbers for the points on the graph by clicking “show all.” The result would be this:

Keep this in mind as you use the Analytics program- the “show all” and “hide all” buttons will pop up intermittently.

Interpretation:

  • Along with a snapshot of trends over time as far as visits/page views, you can also see if there is a trend toward more or less page views per visit.

Definitions:

  • Page Views are times a different page of your site is viewed (i.e., loaded).
  • Visits are sessions by a particular user. One visit may consist of several page views.

This is an excerpt from the Analytics Guide Articles section, where you can find (and contribute) more in-depth information about Google Analytics, AWStats and more.
